Yamagiwa Corporation established in 1923 is one of Japan’s major distributors of high profile lifestyle products. They have showrooms in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and several branch offices throughout Japan. Yamagiwa has become recognised as the pioneer of lighting design in Japan since commencing manufacturing in 1954 of a stunning light collection designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Wright designed these products specifically for houses he was completing. As part of the arts and craft philosophy of the pieces, Wright insisted that Yamagiwa utilised local timbers from the regions of production in their manufacturing process. Over the past decades, having established the worldwide network with internationally acclaimed lighting companies, Yamagiwa began to develop a number of original lamps with themselves within their extensive research and development team. Yamagiwa has also been collaborating with architects and lighting designers in a variety of fields such as public facilities, commercial projects, office environments, residential spaces, as well as landscape lighting planning.
Altagamma, the association of Italian companies distinguished for innovation and design conferred on Yamagiwa Corporation the membership for the Altagamma International Honorary Council in 2004. From their excellent early foundation of innovation and craftsmanship Yamagiwa have radically reinvigorated their commitment to lighting manufacture, with a major launch in Milan in 2005 of a collection compiled of pieces by world-renowned designers Naoto Fukasawa, Ross Lovegrove, Shiro Kuramata, Shigeru Uchida, and Tokujin Yoshioka. Their collection is technically advanced, aesthetically diverse and set to become a list of lighting icons for the future. The Yamagiwa collection continues to expand.
